Behind the Scenes: Prompt, "Broken"

Watercolor and ink wash on watercolor paper.
One thing down, a million, billion adventures to be had. I finished out highschool with this piece (which I really must rephotograph) and am looking forwards to the adventures not only of the upcoming summer, but of the next step: college.

I'm a part of a group for upcoming students and the prompt for last week was "broken." I wracked my brains for quite a bit, watched half a season of Doctor Who, ate some tuna, and while sitting in my ninth period art class, the idea dawned on me, and it was an idea that was quite unlike what I've done previously. So naturally, I had to have a go.

I'm an illustration major, and as the end of school loomed near I began to really question where I wanted to go. I always like to have a plan and hit the ground running, so not knowing what exactly I'd like to do after the four upcoming years are over rather frightened me. Sure, I had ideas of areas I'd like to work in, such as working in the music industry in some way, or working as a freelancer, but it bugged me that I didn't know where I was going precisely.

And that is when I decided it didn't matter. I have enough dedication to art and a yearning to do more with it that when opportunities open up, I'll enjoy making the most of them. I've always talked about adventure and voyaging, but in the past few weeks I slowly realized that I was subconsciously disallowing myself to experience them because I was expecting and planning instead of becoming wrapped up in the flow of it all.

There are a million, billion adventures out there, and all that is needed is a step out of the door.
